About FAP

Flexible Academic Program Framework

At IIITA, the FAP framework allows entry into BTech via JoSAA and earning up to Ph.D. degree with availability of multiple exit options. After availing a exit option it allows re-entry from the point of exit in the future and continue studying in regular or working professional mode. Many other features of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 have been innovatively embedded under FAP framework.



लचीला शैक्षणिक पाठ्यक्रम

भारतीय सूचना प्रोद्योगिकी संस्थान इलाहाबाद, प्रयागराज के लचीला (flexible) शैक्षणिक पाठ्यक्रम (एफ ए पी ) के अंतर्गत JoSAA के माध्यम से बी टेक में प्रवेश लेने वाले छात्र के लिए पी एच डी तक की डिग्री बहुनिकास (Multi Exit) एवं भविष्य में उसी बिंदु से पुन: प्रवेश लेकर रेगुलर या वर्किंग प्रोफेशनल विकल्प के साथ उपलब्ध है| राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति (एनईपी) 2020 की अन्य अनेक विशेषताओ को भी इसमे लागू किया गया है I

Highlights of FAP Framework

IIITA Prayagraj will admit students in B.Tech. (IT) and B.Tech. (ECE) under the FAP framework through JoSAA-2022. A total of 50 seats will be filled under the FAP for the Academic Year 2022-2023. Out of which 25 seats will be filled in B.Tech. (IT) and another 25 seats will be filled in B.Tech. (ECE). The following benefits will be available to the students admitted under FAP framework:


1) The Exit Options

(a) After completion of 120 *Credits,
(b) After completion of B.Tech. Degree requirement of 160 Credits
(c) After Completion of M.Tech. Degree Requirement of 225 Credits + 2 Research Credits
(d) After completion of PhD Degree requirement of 260 Credits + 12 #Research Credits

*1 Credit is earned after qualifying 1 hour of Lecture, or 2 Hour of Tutorial or 2 Hour of Practical course in a semester time. Whereas, #research credits can be earned by research activities like publishing papers in conference/journals, patents, start-ups, conducting sessions in workshop, etc. as may be defined from time to time.


2) Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)

The ABC will be maintained at the above-mentioned exit point (as may be completed by a student).Academic growth of the students will be maintained through an integrated IT platform available at https://fapis.in. The credits earned by the student will be redeemed at the time of his/her exit. However, additional credits earned (if any) in addition to the above mentioned credits, will be maintained perpetually, if a student exit before earning minimum 120 credits. These credits may be redeemed by the student at other institute (who may accept it) or after reentering into IIITA for higher study.


3) Specialized 8 Credit Minor and 16 Credit Major modules

The Minor and Major modules in the field of IT/ECE are specifically designed so that the students can gain preliminary knowledge of M.Tech(ECE) and MTech(IT) specializations running at IIITA. A few more minor/major modules developed by other prestigious institutes may also be offered. The student may choose any one of these minor/major modules.


4) 12-Credits Humanities and Social Science (HSS) basket

The subject of the HSS basket offered by IIITA will be covered during 1 st , 2 nd , 5 th and 6 th semesters in a sequential manner. The student needs to choose one such HSS subject in the 1st Semester. Independent standalone courses or clubbed courses from multidisciplinary baskets (as approved by IIITA) may be allowed in ONLINE/On-Campus/Hybrid mode in the subsequent semesters as mentioned above.


5) NPTEL and SWAYAM

Other institutes courses of NPTEL and SWYAM portal (recognized by IIITA) may be allowed for Multidisciplinary/HSS/Sports/Arts/ Languages/Community services electives baskets in ONLINE/ON Campus/Hybrid modes. Furthermore, the summer semesters may also be used for early starting or late closing of courses as the need may be. No additional fee (excluding food/stay etc. if applicable) will be charged from students in such cases.

6) Flexible Fee

At the start of each semester the student needs to pay full tuition fee and other applicable charges for the semester. However, the subjects will be offered with a specific tuition fee in each semester. At the time of course registration it will be visible to the students. Some course with different fee offered by different faculty members is also possible. Depending upon the choices made by a student at the point of registration the actual fee as applicable for the opted courses will be charged. The balance if any will be adjusted.
